Annual Meeting,

The annual mooting of the-Master* tori Horticultural and Industrial Society was held in the office oftho President last (Friday) night.', .The ohair'was occupied by Mr W.-G. Beard. . , :,:'',* The minutes of the previous;meeting were read and confirmed, r:' > The report and balance Sheet for the last season were read and adopted, the reportbdin'g as : In presenting the balnnbe sheet -for the past season your Committee are pleased to state that notwithstanding the adverse circumstances, in connection with the Chrysanthemum Show the ; financial position of ;the Society is still sound, The season's . work shows an improvement on last year, but at the same time your' Committee regret that more interest.is not taken by residents generally'in the welfare of the Society. The Spring and Autumn shows passed off with satisfactory results, but your Committee are not in • favor ■■ of. recommending another two days' show until the position of the Society is.on a better basis. Unfortunately the Chrysanthemum Show was not a success financially, owing to the unfavourable weather. The exhibition, however, was,' for a first attempt, sufficiently satisfactory to induce your Committee to recommend a continuance of similar shows. The assets amounted to 111 7s Gd.and the liabilities The election of officers then' took place, and resulted as follows : President, Mr W, G. Beard; vicepresidents, Messrs A. J, Rawson and P. Murray; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr J, 0, Alpass; Committee-Messrs' W. B. Chennellß, B. Johnson, J, Wragge, P. W. Parker', J. Graham junr, J. Candy, W. Lew, J. Barriman, G, Gruechow, T. Dixon, J: Stone, 0, Collotte, J, Carpenter and D.Stone.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Easthope for auditing the accounts, and to the late Secretary/who, owing to other business engagements, was prevented from again filling the office.

MrT. Gardner was appointed a life member in consideration of his services as a Committeeman for the past sixteen years. Several matters. of detail in connection with the forthcoming season were left with a sub-committee. . The meeting then adjourned.
