MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Fortnightly Ming,
The fortnightly meeting of the Mas* terton Borough Council was held last (Tuesday) evening, there being present His Worship the Mayor and Ora Herou, Dixon, Mutrie, 'feist, Gapper, Fa Ohamborlain, and T, E, Chamberlain. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE, from W. Batger, stating that the .statutes oi New Zealand could be procured for £2los, From''the County Clerk, stating that it was proposed to oall a conference of contributing local bodies to discuss the question of erecting a home for the aged and needy,.. . From James Moore, asking that something be done to the road leading to his house.
From Mr J. J, Freeth, requesting payment for his services as Clerk to the Borough Licensing Bench. • From Mr W. Adams, asking the Oounoil to erect a boundary fence between its reserve and his property.
From the Olerk to the Municipal Conferonco, stating (hat tiie Oonforence this year would take place on Wednesday, 6th July; stating that tbe Railway Commissioners were granting free passes to delegates, and asking the Council for the namo of its delegate. From tho Borough Surveyor, with regard to certain works undertaken in the Borough, RESOIiYED. That Mr Moore's letter be referred to the Works Committee. That Mr Adams' request for a boundary, fence be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. That the amount clue to Mr J. J. Freeth for his services be passed for payment. . 'That His Worship the Mayor bo appointed delegate to tho Municipal Conference and the Conference to discuss the question of erecting a home fgrthe aged and needy, DOG REGISTRATION, Mr J,.C. Ingram, dog registration officer, wrote complaining of the system of payment for his services, and requesting that he be paid a salary. .' His Worship the Mayor moved that, Mr Ingram be paid asulary. .' , Cf T, Chamberlain seconded. : Cr Uapper pointed out that at the present time there wuro a large number of cure about the town. He noticed in the paper that a man had nearly broken his neok by falling over one of these wretches. He would like to know'how many wero registered.
The .Clerk: About a hundred. Cr Gapper: That's about a third of the dogs in the town, The Mayor stated that the number of curs was probably increased by the sitting of the Native Land Court. The resolution was put and negatived on the voices, , BOROUGH SURVEMb'B REPORT.
The report of the Borough Surveyor was here read and discussed, The Masterton Blacksmith and Wheelwright Manufacturing; Company was reported to be using a building with a dangerous wooden roof. It was resolved to notify the Company that they must effect an alteration. The Surveyor complained that certain persons had refused to pay the fees. : '
The Clerk was instructed to act by the direction of the Borough Surveyor' for the recovery of fees, at the expense of the latter. THE DRINKING FOUHTAItf. The plans of the proposed drinking fountain were laid before the Council by. Mr U. T. Natusoh and referred to tho Works Committee. GAB. The report of the meeting, of' the Gas Committee was read and adopted. BUILDING COJISIHTEE. The report of the Building Committee re the proposed alterations to !the Olork'a office and Library, was read and adopted without amendment. It was resolved that Mr John King be authorised to prepare plaos and specifications for the necessary work, NGAMATAWA ROAD, The Mayor, in answer to Cr Gapper, stated that the declaration for the
Ngamalawa road hadbaensignedand the road would probably be gazetted in the course of a weett. The meeting then adjourned,
