MASTERTON BOROUGH.
BuMng Extension Committee Report, A meeting of tho Masterton Borough Council Building Extension Committee was held last night in the Council Chambers. Present—Crs feist (in the chair), Dixon and Gapper. The Committee decided tbat for the safe custody of books, papers and recorda of the Borough a strong room be provided, as in the event of Sto the loss would be irremediable, As regards tho Library the present accommodation is wholly inadequate and internal alterations, even of, the strength of the building, would bo of no practical use, Eecoiiimendations were made as follows:—(1) That a new Library room be built adjoining ilk present staircase,-and flush up to Chapel tit., uniform with tho main building, the staircase to bo in tho main building. (2) That a strong room be built in the lobby facing the main entrance, betrecß the council room and tho present Library, the doorway to the verandah to be closed up. (8) That the present library be used for a olerk's room, the hall'glass doors to be taken fur the new library. (4) That a doorway and covered way of communication bo made from the kitchen of tho custodian's residence to the staircase lobby, the kitchen door to he put where the window is, and the door where tho window now is. (6) That provision be made for carrying off the overflow water from the roof, and for the ventilation under the dwelling. The proposals of tho Committee if given effect to will provide the re>> quired accommodation and give an extra room to the Council for Clerk, Committees, etc. With referenoo to the financial position, the proposed expenditure may be undertaken without difficulty bb there iB a credit balance of £BO to the library account frith most ot the year's revenues to come in, The Committee propose that the rental paid to the library account when the alterations aro made be £7O per annum and tbat the Library account U charged the 6um of £lO per annum bb its proportion of clerical and office expenses, _ 019. A meeting of the Gbb Committee WSB also held last evening. Present —Cra Feist (Chairman), Dixon, Perry and the Mayor. It was decided to effect necessary repairs to roof of retort house which was damaged in the recent gale. Also to proonre a supply of wet meters, and to put on services to the residences of Messrs W. H.,Cole and Z, M. Hoar in Chapel-Btreet.
