A large deputation, embraot'mg' M.E.R.V, clergymen,city.councillors, and temperance advooates, waited on the Preniior this morning and asked that the proclamation of, a licensing district at Otarohunga bo withdrawn, One speaker alleged that it wasillegal. Mr Ballimce pointed out that the district had been proclaimed at the request of the natives, including Wahanui, Tuonui, and there would lie a large : European population there who had to he con aidered. Ho suggested that the deputation should influence the Maoris to withdraw the request themselves. He promised to bring the matter before the Cabinet fur tnrther discussion.
