DRUNK, An individual who got drunk for the first time in his life and was accommodated for the night at the police cells was discharged on promising to leave the town. The accused; AiCastleppinti Sergeant M'Ardle stated that the accused had been sent out to Lsetlepoint by Mrs Tayjer hut had been re- ! turned, as nothing could be done with her. Mr Lowes asked if the lather of the accused hud been spoken to concerning her conduct, ■ M'Ardle; Both the father Ad brothers of the accused have been spoken to, but can do nothing, Mr Lowes (to accused): Have you anything to say in the matter ? The accused made no reply. ! The Bench stated that it regretted exceedingly having to send the accused to gaol,, It trusted, however,she would see the error of ber a ways tod,-reform, She would be sentenced to one month's imprisonment in Wellington Terrace Gaol,'' " ' ' The aodused displayed'the greatest unconcern in trie Court proceeding's, and left the box 1 smiling. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, David Findlay pleaded guilty to having wilfully caused damage to the property of Mr W. W. Scott on Sunday last, but stated that he was sorry for what had ocourrcd. Mr Lowes: Does Mr Scott wish to press the case ? Mr Scott: No your Worships. Sergeant M'Ardle stated that riotous bohavious on Sundays was be coming quite common in Masterton and drunkenness was also prevalent, He would therefore ask that an exemplify fine be inflicted, Mr Lowes: I Bupposo that means open hotels, Sergeant M'Ardle: There are hotels whioh will continue to open so long as they have licenses. The Bench inflicted a fine of LI, and costs Os, and ordered the defendant to pay £1 for the damage done.
