PUBLIC TBUST OFFICE. CAPITAL FUNDS OF ESTATES placed in the Publio Trust Office guaranteed by the Colony. 1 By " The Public Trust Office Ada Amendment Act, 1891," the Colony now guarantees the integrity of the capital funds of properties plaoed in the Publio Trust Office whero there is no direction for the iuveatmenfcof such fundsj or where there is no other direction for their investment than generally, at the option of the Public Trustee, in General Govern" ment Securities of New Zealand or in mortgage of real estate within the Colony.' The Colony also guarantees ou such capital funds a fixed rate of interest to be credited quarterly, free of al office cbarpes, to the properties from which the funds arise 3. The value of this guarantee will be obyioUß when it is considered thatit is—(a,) The guarantee of the Colony against loss from investments in bad or insufficient securities, (b.) The guarantee of the Colony against loss from delay in the investment of moneyß. (o.) The guarantee of the Colony that the interest fixed by Order in Council shall be regularly and punctually paid, free of all charges of the Publio Trust Office. 4. The rates of interest to be allowed by the Publio Trust Office on the Capital Funds for investment are 5 per cent on any amount np to £3,000, and 4 per cent on the amount in excess of £3,000, and these rates, which are allowed free of all charges, : will result in an income of—£so a year from LI,OOO, or 6 per cent 150 i, 3,000, or 5 per cent 190 „ 4,000, or 4| per cent 280' „ 5,000, or 4 3-6ths „ 270 n 6,000, or per cent and so on.
