WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly:.: meeting of the Wairarapa North County Council was held yesterday (Thursday), there being present Crs Von Redin (in the chair), Stuckey, Handyside, Groves, Guild, Eli Smith, and OookburnHood. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meet" ing were read and confirmed, RAXGERS. '■ Mr Henry Bhodes was appointed Ranger for the Eketahuna district, The appointment of a ranger for the Masterton-Waimata : road was again referred to the Road Board. bad Dim Mr 0. M'Killop wrote, calling attention to the' bad state of the drain near his property at Te Ore Ore; the water from which had damaged his garden and crops. The matter was referred to the Engineer for a report,
STOPPING A ROAD. ■ Tho Eketahuna Road Board wrote, asking the consent of the Council to the stopping of a road through Block IX, Mangaone. As the consent in writing of the party most concerned had not bsen obtained, it was resolved to reply that the Council cannot comply with the request of the Board, HOME FOR THE AGED AND NEEDY, ; The Clerk to the Masterton Borough Counoil wrote suggesting a conference to disouss the question ot erecting a home for the aged and needy, ■ The Pahiatua County Counoil in» timated that it was not prepared to join in the movement to establish Bucliahome,
Or You Kediu thought the suggestion of the Borough Council a good one, Cr Groves said he was at a loss io know whaß was done with the £SOO expended by the Wairarapa North Benevolent Society, On the motion of the Chairman it was decided that the suggestion of the Masterton Borough Council to hold a conference be adopted, and that a day be fixed for the same, the Council to be represented by Crs Beetham, Stucliey, Gookburn-Hood, and Guild.
. deputation. ■ Mr Burton Boys waited upon the Council and asked if something oould not bfrdone to mako the road between Mrs Bwington's corner and the first Waipoua bridge passable for pedestrians. At th 6 present time it was in a fearfully muddy-state. Cr Guild thought it was necessary that something be done.
Cr Von Redin asked if tho rate* payers would not be prepared to raise a small loan to form a footpath. ' Mr Boys said that could be a matter for after consideration. On the motion of Cr Guild it was resolved that an estimato of the 5 cos t of the formation of a footpath be procured from the Engineer/and that it be a suggestion that the iuud be scraped from the road.
COUNTY COUNCIL CONFERENCE. The report of tho conference of the County Councils recently held at Auckland was laid upon the table. FINANCE, The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read, showing a credit balance in the Bank of £698. Is Id. Accounts amounting to £62010s 2d were passed for payment. '' LOOA\ BODIES AUDIT BILL, The report.'oh the Local Bodieß Audit Bill was adopted. KAIWHATA ROitD, It was resolved that the question of the Eaiwhata road stand over till next meeting. engineer's beport, ■ The report of the Engineer was read and adopted, The' Engineer was instructed to make some experiments in tho way of combattiug the willow nuisance by poisoning with arsenic, such experiment to be carried on in any locality hej chooses to select. MASTERTON-WAIMATA ROAD. Leave was granted Or Groves to withdraw his motion re restricting certain classes of traffio on the Mas-terton-Waimata road. •' 1 ■ ' RATES. . ' ■ The consideration of Cr Smith's motion re arrears of rates and penalty for the non-payment of the same was postponed till next meeting.. . -'TYPE' WRITER.
