The Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was never in a more flourishing and prosperous condition than it is to-day. During the past year its roll of membership has been largely

increased, its finauoial : position lias ' improved, and altogether it has be- ' ooine an institution creditable alike to { its energetic officers and to the district ( at large, Its most recent progressive 1 step has been that of incorporation, which places it in possession of the ' advantage? of all the old-established ' Associations in the Colony. The queeslion of amalgamation with the Society in the South Wairarapahasfor a con" , siderable time been under considera- , tion, but events which bate transpired during the past few months have clearly demonstrated .that this is iinpossible, The Association is now therefore standing on its own bottom, and with prudent management of its affairs there is no reason why it sjipuld not become one of the most important'institutions of its kind in the Colony, A* its bask )s a yaet expanse of fertile country recently opened up, a'galaxy of enterprising Settlers following agricultural and pastoral pursuits, and best of, all a unity of feeling- .which in no email degree contributes to the success of ' all institutions of this character.
