MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting ot tho Masterton Road Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Beetham, MoKenzie, Harris and Wai dell. Mr Beetliaw was voted to the chair. ' It was resolved that the whole of tho members of the Board constitute a Works Committee, three to form a quorum; Messrs Holmes and Wardell were balloted 10 retire from membership at tho end of the year. Correspondciicfiontward and inward was read. Mr Christenseu waited u"on the Board and asked that the thirds from section 10, Block IV, be expended in making a culvc.it and approao Mr Bruno's road.—This was ag Mr Walsh applied fur an extension of time in which to complete his metalling contract on the To MaraJiiriwhakapapa road Application granted. Mr Wickcnden complained that the \flf cu ' rerl ncur ' ! ' B property at Manga- ' akuta was too small and would not pass the water—Tho Engineer was instructed to report upon the cost of the culvert required to carry off the
water, With regard to the suggestion of the County Council that a joint ranger bo appointed for the Mastorton district, it was decided that the Board bas already a ranger (Mr J. C, Ingram) who appears to give satisfaction, and recommends the Council to make arrangements with him. The roadman was instructed to report to the Engineer on the application of M'Rao Bros for repairs and additions to a culvert on Fernihurst road. Tho report of the Finance Committhe wbb read and adopted, showing receipts in rates since last meeting amounting to £lB5 16s 9d. Accounts amounting to £453 3s 4a were passed for payment. The resolution declining to pay Mr M'Kenzio his wages was rescinded 0,. the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr M'Kenzie- , The Engineer's report was read and adopted, It was resolved that the striking of tho general rate be postponed until the new valuations are supplied, A special rate was struck for the Te Mara-Kiriwhakapapa loan. On the motion of Mr Wardell, seconded by the Chairman, it was resolved with reference to the proposal to take a road through the Weraiii Block:—That it ba a recommendation to the Board to adopt suggestion No. 1 contained in Mr Bell's second opinion of 18th April; that failing a favourable reply being received Irom tho Government wuhin fourteen days from date, the Board should then proceed to givo effect to suggestion No. 2, itid that in that event the Clerk bo authorised without further instructions from the Board to take the necessary steps to enable the Board to carry out tho suggestion without delay, any costs incurred to bo a charge against Bub-division No, 3 of the district,
