Competing Teams. Meetings of various nationalities were held in MastertoJ on Saturday night to arrange for tearuß to compete at tbe International Tug-of- War to be held in the Theatre Royal early next month,
A meeting of Colonials was held at. tho Club Hotel, when Mr 0. A. Pownall was elected skipper of tho team and Mr R. J, Malcolm Secretary. A com .nil tee consisting of Messrs D'A i cy, Ig»ulclen and Malcolm was appointed to pick a team, which will contain ten men,
A meeting of Irishmen was held in the rooms of Mr J. Williams, tobacconist, About fourteen natives of the Emerald Isle wero present, The following names of those desirous of taking part were given in, viz,, Messrs O'Leavy, 3. Cavanngh, J, Montgomery, P. Mulcaby, C. Murray, T. Connell, P, MoKenna, M. Serins, J. Gardiner, J. McGirr, D. McMullen, J. Gill, J. Tobin, P. Carr, W. Cody, W. flay, H, Marsh, J. Dowd, H. O'Leary, and T, Gilpin, It was resolved to meet again on Monday evening in the same place, when it is hoped that mauy others will attend and give their names, so that a good tPAin of ten can be selected. A captain and committee will also be elected.
A meeting of Germans will bo held in the Club Hotel this evqping, At the tug-of-war in the Wellington Opera House on Saturday night the Welshmen beat the Italians, the Irishmen put down tho redoubtable New Zealanders, Germany defeated England, and the Maoris gave way to the superior form of the Scotchmen,
