Much Damage Done, Buildings Razed to the Ground,

A more violent storm than that experienced on Saturday has not passed over the Masterton district for a considerable time, • On Friday night the wind sprang up from., the south, increasing in violence hour, by hour, until on Saturday morning a '. regular hurrioane' prevailed, which i coutinued with slight abatement throughout the day. The rain i descended in torrents, the air "bit shrewdly," and the wind howled in ■ its terrible rage. The result was that the gutters were flooded and to cross Ihe streets was a matter of the greatest difficulty. The !}tar Club js not in a position to I pay the sura demanded, and it would > be muob better for the Trust to take i half a loaf thp no loaf at all, The ;. football matches afford ' the public, and the admission to'the 1 Park is as a rule free. It cannot ) therefore be expected that the. Club will contribute more than a nomiual [ Ggure for the right to play on a I public ground; -r- ''■■'■•■■■■■ ■■•.';• ! The Athletic' News (England) , reports that a ■ 'father • peculiar con's undrum was put to the Kugby Union 1 Coni'mittee for sblntioh recently,; -It 1 was as follows!
