WE BROKEN CABLES.

Arrangements for Telegrams, Great Inconvenience, [By Telegraph,—Press Association,] Wellinston, Monday. With both of the Cook Strait cables broken, all the messages have to be sent on the cables between Wanganui and Wakapuaka, and in consequence they will be considerably delayed, Tho work on that cable will be extremely heavy, so much so that in all probability the staffs at Wakapuaka and Wanganui will be on duty for the greater part of the twenty four hours, The break in the cables was dearly the result of the gale, One of the lines which was broken close to the shore in Lyell's Bay has been lying intact in that vicinity for twenty-six years, During tho break all delayed telegrams and ordinary Government telegrams will be refused. The cable repairing steamer is somewhere in the vicinity of Singapore, hut the Telegraph Department baa not yet been able to communicate with her. Sho cannot reach here before about the beginning of July, and it will probably be three months before full communication between the two Islands is restored, in , which ovent considerable inconvenience will be occasioned during the sitting of Parliament, which opens on Juno 23rd. • As to Press work, none will be sent after two o'clock (however much there may be on hand), until 10 p.m., and the Department, state all messages after that hour will be late in arrival at their destination/ Five operators from tho Wellington office left for Wanganui this morning and are to be sent from Blenheim to Wakapuaka.
