It is to be regretted that the lecture delivered last night by Mr L, Hanlon, Government fruit expert, was heard by so few of the'Masterton gardeners. There is hardly an orchard in the district which is not affected more or less by blight or codlin moth, • and the subject of" Fruit Pests" « therefore of considerable importance, Although the weither militated tc some extent agdnst the attendance, the Government is certainly to blame for not having properly advertised tlic affair. We may safely say that fifty ° per cent of the orchardists in thi district were not aware of the inten- , tion of Mr Hanlon to lecturer Mi Hanlon assures us that tho Governi. ment will not sanction any expend! j tnre in the direo'fon of advertising, Under these circumstances it appear: to be almost a farce to send an experl lecturing through the country. Thi • information imparted by Mr Hanlor last night was of a most interesting • and useful character, and it is a grea ' pity that it should not be available t( ' the whole settlers of the district, J; ' the Agricultural Pepartraent were t( | publish the lectures, of Mr Hanlon ii pamphlet form and distribute then a amongst the settlers some good migh : be done.
