The monthly tneetiug of the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce wbb held yesterday afternoon, the President (Mr Gale) being in the chair, A ciroular letter was received from the London Chamber of Commerce, stating that the dates for the meetings of the Congress of Chambers of Commerce of the Empire were the 28th, 29th and 30th of June and the Ist of July,. Apropos of this Congress, a Canadian lithographic firm wrote, asking for the portraits of the President or representatives of the Wellington Chamber at the said Congress, as they intend publishing a full set of portraits of congressional delegates in the Dominion Illustrated Monthly, It was decided to forward the letter to Messrs Levin & Nathan, the Chamber's delegates, Messrs Stnither and Young, of New York City, wrote, offering lo act as agents for exhibitors at' the World's Columbian Exposition,' which they go on to say, ' will be the most stupendous, magnificent, and comprehensive exposition of everything that pertains to the affairs of lite and that is useful in everyform,' A letter was received lrom the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce suggesting as a desirable alteration in the Bankruptcy Act that' an order of discharge shall not release the bankrupt lrom any debt incurred for food, groceries, fuel, clothing, or medicine • supplied by retail within three months prior to the order of adjudication, notwithstanding, that any oreditor may have proved in respect of Bucli debts and received dividends.' This letter was referred to the Committee on Bankruptcy, A letter was also re* ceived from the Invercargill Chamber suggesting the desirability of permanent nautical assessors being appointed to enquire into wrecks, It was resolved to reply that the Council of the Wellington Chamber does not see its 1 way to fall in with the suggestion, Mr David Hall, city missionary, applied for the use of the Chamber for his Sunday bethel-services, It was decided to grant the request subject to the withdrawal of the use of tho Chamber wuhin a week's notice being given.
