ANOTHER MYSTERY.
Clothes, but no Owner,
News from police circles have of late (says the till, Tims) been of a somewhat sensational character, and the latest item is no exception to the I rule. Following closely on the raid on betting housns' came the mysterious disappearance and subsequent discovery of the dead body of the young man Richardson; on Monday morning a man was lound dying in a pad-, dook in Sydney-street, and now comes a case of what may prove to be anything from mysterious disappearance to murder at Petone, Constable Lyflter came into Wellington yesterday afternoon and reported that a man named W.H. Curtis was fishing on tho Potone Wharf and found acoat, containing in tho pockets.a key, a pocket book containing papers, etc. Curtis said he also saw a dark brown felt hat in the water near tbo wharf, but could not get hold of it. The coat evidently belonged to a person of German nationality, for tho papers in the pocket book are all made oat in tho German language, and have evidently belonged to a person named Johann George Baldewein, One paper appears to be a passport, another a certificate of the bearer having served in the German army, and yet another is a certificate of birth. From these it appears that the former possessor was born at Broinen i» 1861, and the pocket-book has inscribed on it in plain black lettering the words, • F. Mißsler, Bank and Gledwechsel, Bremen, 20, Bahuofstrasse," flo further information has been obtained up to tho present, but to-day a constable will be sent to Petone to make a thorough search for the tody, on which, when found, an inquest will of course be held.
