■Caricaturing, [To tub Editor.] Sir.—A correspondent under the now de pkmt of" Resident," in your issue of yesterday, with regard to the " cartoon" exhibited in town, observes that the cartoonist has represented "a certain energetio Sergeant of Polioe as : an aged, physically broken-down X inmate of a public cha'rity institution," w l% etc, elo. While not holding with this < maie (caricaturing) of ventilating a grievance, I think that there is a great deal to be learnt from the cartoon exhibited at present, showing how men through political influence are enabled to occupy a position whicn their age aud record in the past have proved their unsuitability to oooupy, while younger and abler men are debarred from promotion on account of their differing in things political from "the Powers that be," Verb, sap.
