THE GOVERNOR'S PHOTO.
An Ingenious Defence. The Auckland correspondent of the Otago Daily Times telegraphs:- •' An ingenious defence was sat up bv a defendant at the Police Court this morning. He was charged with not having contributed to the support of his wife and family, The man si ated he had gone to Wellington to try and sell a new song, but the attempt was notsuccessful, He ascribed the cause to the fact that the Governor's photograph was on the frontispiece, and as he was not popular in the Empiro City people would not buy the song, This did not, however, satisfy Dr. Giles, who ordered him to give £25 surety for the future, or two month's imprisonment in default,"
