Eebtaitona, Monday, Mr Tuokey, carrier between Eketa buna and Pahiittua, met with rathe a'serious acoident here on Saturday It seems he was loading his brake n ' the- railway station and using. th uraoeto sling some heavy goods , wheu the chain slipped and his ban ' getting caught in the cogs of th wheel the bones of three or fou i fingere were completely smnshei • The sufferer was conveyed by specif ' conveyance to Pahiatua before hi injuries were attended to, This i 1 the second accident of a similar natui whiob has huppened with the sam I crane during the last fortnight; i A dancing class was opened here i . the Oddfellows' Hall last Wednesda ; evening, and from all accounts : likely to be a success. > A meeting ot the Eketahuna Rill Club was held on Thursday evenin last, when it was decided to hold tl Annual Ball on the 24th Inst, i the Ball was such a success last yet no efforts will be'spare'd to maketh . as successful. A large and influentii committee has been formed, inclw ins a sub-couimittee of ladios wl have offered to provide tl refreshments. Jhe committee, recoj , nising the fact that ibis is tho ball i the Benson, have decided to issue i vitations as before. It isexpecti that a team from the Mnstertt Volunteers will visit Eketahuna c that date to fire their annual matt with the latter Club. The Bush Rugby Union opi 1 their season here on Queen's Bird day with a match between the Eket huna and Woodville Clubs. The weather, which has been ve wet and cold for the last.week, h now cleared, and grass-seeding, whi was put a stop to owing to tho co tinued dry weather which we h ■ bffore the rain set in, is now in li swing, '
