The distribution,

New scholarship regulations wern adopted at tho meeting of the Board of Education 011 Wednesday, They provide that scholarships shall ho tenable for two years, open to all children under 15 years of ago on tho Ist of October, attending any of the Boards' schools. The scholarships are to he distributed as follows Ten or more scholarships of the annual value of £ls, open to any children attending schools within the City of Wellington; threo or more scholarships of the annual value of £3O, open to any children attending schools within the WnimrapaNorth and Wairarapa South counties; £GO a year or nwro to be awarded in scholarships within the Hutt and Horowhenuii counties, aud boroughs of liutt, Petone, Onslow, Karon and Melrose, as follows;—£ls a year to be given if successful candidates can reach the College or Girls' High School by daily train from Porirua or Hutt, or if they reside at Vogeltown or Kilbirnie; otherwise, £3O a year, The successful com* petitor for any such scholarship shall receive the amount of his or hor scholarship only so long as ho or her shall continue his or her education at any school or educational institution within this Education District, approved by tho Board, at which tho higher branches ol education are taught, The Board may in special cases approve a school or educational institution outside this Education District, The subjects of examination are those prescribed for Standard V], but no scholarship will be awarded unless ono-halfof the possiblenuinber of marks in each subject is ohtained, The examination for all scholarships will be held in October of each year, the time and place to be publicly notified, The names of all intending competitors should be forwarded to the Secretary not later than seyen days before the data of examination,
