| (From Our Own Comspondent.) ' _So far no action bns been taken 1 either by the general public or the local Friendly Society to procure | another doctor in place of the lute Dr M'Lennan, I think it.ia about time something was done in the matter, We hajre had several acci--1 dents here during the last two months, ' and in every case all have had to be sent to the Mnsterton Hospital before being properly attended to, and in one or two instances the poor men have had to spend a night here in pain and agony, Apart from the accidents we hear, on all sides, people asking for a doctor, It ie time our local Lodge of Oddfellows took Borne steps in the matter, and I hope the question will be brought up at their next meeting, The co-operative system of working the railway contracts is not a success. The men state tlioy cannot make wages at the prices paid for work, ind I am informed after interviewing several of the men on the different contracts that the engineers so man-, age it that even if they have earned good Wages for the month, it is worked out that the men only receive about two thirds of what they really havo earned, and then they have their ten per cent deduoted 'from that, so it leaves them with very little after paying their store bills, Again, the men are dissatisfied at the way they have been paid in the pist. Instead of being paid immediately after the work has been measured up, they have had to wait in some eases three weeks for their money, This not .only comes • hard on the men, but on the storekeeper, He is supposed to supply the men with stores without any security whatever, and hen has to Wait tho pleasure of the Government for his money,
