Annual Mootin?. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wellington, Wednesday. The annual .meeting of (ho Wei* lingtonrManawatu Railway Company ' was held to-day, Tho report, which recommended tbo payment of a dividend of fa'vo per cent,, and balance sheet, was adopted. In his address . (lie Chairman of the Directors said he thought he waa justified in asserting that the continuous and progressive increase in the volume of traffic on the Company's railway was without parallel in the railway records of N.Z, The receipts showed an increase in fivo years of upwards of seventy-three per cent. Under the new system of taxation the Company would pay £468 7n Id less than in previous years. The immediate effect on the finances of the Company of the change in the « incidence of,taxation would bo very small—much less than the Directors ex|ieoted when the Premier, in moving the second reading of the Land and Inconio Assessment Bill, observed -■that the tax ou income would be fairei-and less burdensome on one railway in tho Colony which was then paying an utterly unfair contribution under the Property Tax.
