He stated ! that Mr Natusch, who was present, bad as his contribution to the pro- ' posed work drawn up a plan free of cost. Mr Natusoli would explain the ' matter now. J Mr Natusch stated that his time had been so fully occupied that he | was unable to prepare more than a 1 rough plan. The work, as he pro- ' posed, would cost about £4O. A ' pump would be erected at the rear of 1 the fountain, which would supply a 1 urn. ' ' 1 Mr Eton, as a member of the Committee appointed to deal with the matter, stated that Mr Woodroffe 1 had been appointed to canvas for subscriptions. Mr Woodroffe stated he had been one of the first to open up the roads in the distmt. They could see the benefit of these roads, He believed a drinking fountain was of as much importance to the town as narrow roads. He had canvassed the town and had succeeded in collecting 116. The fountain would not be muoh used during the next few months, but in the summer months it nould be a great boon to travellers and visitors to the town. He thought that in time the water would bo supplied from an Abyssinian well. He now asked the Trust to contribute the balance ol ;he money required, He himself had done his best, and besides making a money donation was giving the drain pipes necessary. The Government had, granted the land, and he hoped the Trustees would do their part. Mr Gapper thought that before anything was done there should be something more definite before the Trust. The plana should have been placed before the Committee. ' Mr Perry asked if more money could not be collected. ' Mr Woodroofe! I have toiled a j good deal. I know of many who : came here with less than I had and have made their fortunes who would ' not give a penny. I will not mention names, | The Chairman: You had better , state names.
