Tliobc who have not Been the entertainment should not miss this opportunity. A dance was held in the school-house at Papawai (near Gicytown) last night in aid of the school funds. A large number uf both sexes were present, and 1 a well-arranged programme of dances ■ was gone through, intervened by several i songs. A splendid repast was provided, and freely availed of. The dance was ■ concluded at four o'clock this morning, Avery handsome handmade bride cake is now on viow at Messrs Chamberlain Bros,, Quoen street establishment. It consists of three tiors and is 1 surmounted by a Cupid hearing a flower 1 vase tilled with orange blossom. Flowers have been very prettily arranged to havo i the appearance of growing from the . sidos. The decorations are altogether | very elaborato and reflect great oredit on the confectioner, Mr James Mander. ' The display of autumn and winter i goods made by the Wairarapa Farmers' i Co-operative Association (lato M. Caanli berg & .Co.) at their Masterton warehouse ( last evening, was a most attractive one, . and was witnessed by large numbers uf 1 people. In the millinery and drapery 1 departments the windows were tastefully • dressed by Mr Heyhoe. Of tho former • there was a grand assortment, hats and bonnetß of all shapes and sizes, and of ! tho latest and mt fashionable designs being shown. Those are their grievances. Mr Hall, proprietor of the tramways, apparently denies any absolute reduction in the' men's pay, but admits adjustment of the rates .of wages. He also complains.that' tho frsdes and Labour Oonnoil practically want to " run" his business .for" him, and that there is a vexatious endeavour to make him employ incompetent men.
