ALLEGED DUMMYISM.
Anotta Land Board Enquiry. A report from Mr N. J. Tone, Crown Lands Ranger, upon the Dry Kiver and Makara block sections; was laid before tho Wellington Land Board yesterday morning. The writer stated that several of the selections by Messrs 0, Pliarazyn and Elgar wore workerl. from one homestead and the sto'A were common to all the'selections' Several of the selections of Messrs Nathan aud others wero worked from the Dry River'homestead, Mr C. Pliarazyn waited on tho Board and stated that he was the father of some of the selectors. He was quite prepared to take an oath that none of the land would be his under any circumstances. It was absolutely tho property of his two children and Mr Elgar. Ho maintained that he could take up land for his children, and ho quoted the opinion of a Supreme (Jourt Judge in,support of this contention. He had told his children that they could sell whenever they chose independently of him. The stock belonged to each of the selectors, hut the sheep wero shorn in one shed, the reason being that thero was no other plaoe in which to shear them. The land taken up by 1) r Elgar belonged to that gentleman, Mr Pliarazyn contended that tho Act contemplated q father working his daughter's land. He was quite wilins; to answer any questions but didaj not think there was any necessity tu| bring the ladies before the Board, as he and Mr Elgar were quite capable of giving any information required. Mr Elgar stated that the land which he had taken up was for his own. benefit and anything which came off it went back in improvements. The sheep were marked differently. There wore no roads into the blocks, and it was impossible therefore to work tho' homesteads separately. Everything he had done had been above board and be courted the fullest enquiry. The physical condition ol the country would not allow of tho fences being put in their proper places,
_. Tho Board resolved to hold an enquiry into the cases on Friday, 29th April, and to summon euch witnesses as were considered necessary,. „ ~
