RIFLE MATCH.
'. Etotaliuaav.i<ow Tauoru. The Eifle match fired at Eketahuna between the TaueruandEketa>>' buna Eifle Clubs resulted in a victory for the first named Club by ten points. The weather wbb all that shootists could desire, yet it. was most remarkable that some of the best shots went to pieoes, especially at the 500 yards range. Mr E. Vennell, of the Taueru Kifle Club, topped the score for both teams, putting on 62 points at the three ranges, with 22 at 500 yards. Mr A. .H.Herbert, of tho Eketahuna Eifle Club, oame second with a score of 55, His score was unfortunately spoilt by accidentally shifting his sight at 200 yards and not noticing it, He made a miss after putting on three bull's eyes, The visiting ceatn were entertained at dinner at 6 p.m. in Mr Polling's Club Hotel, after which the usual toasts were drunk and honoured. A returned match will be fired in about a month's time. Mr V. Wardell captained the Taueru Rifles and Mr W. A. Eowse the Eketahuna Hifles. Considering this is the first match fired by Eketa« buna this season their score is a very fair one. They were also using strange rifles. The following are the scores, five shots at 200, 800, and 500 yards:—
