FIRE BRIGADES CONFERENCE.
[United Press Association.] OflßiSTCntmgn, March 11 The thirteenth annual Conference of the United Fire Brigades A.asooia- fc tion opened to-day, under the presidency of Lieutenant Smith, of- v the Christoburch Brigade. - T!W ( annual report was read,.and showjj a balance to the credit of the Association funds of £195 3s 2d, and of the accident insurance fund £69 2s fid. The Association fund showed,* lossV during the year of £3B, and it was found that the receipts, were not (sufficient to meet the expenses, The report suggested .that the annual * subscription should be laised to 30s. There is a total of ,„, 55 Brigades on the roll. Kuleshad been drawn up for an Accident Society, and up to the present time 800 members had paid their contributions, Eight 25 years' servico stars had been presented during the year, namely-Oummins, Wanganur, Cooksey, Truman; Wimsett, Nelson; Robertson, Dunedin; Hughes, Auckland ; Hobbs, Christohuroh. Valour medals had been presented So Thompson, Wanganui and 0. and 6. Moore, Auckland. The remainder of the report dealt with proposed alterations of rules, and the suggestion that tho '*' competition should be held on alter* nateyears. The balance sheet, . showed receipts £544, andexpfditure £514, was adopted. The Conference carried a motion by the Hawera brigade asking for tho appointment of a "deputation to request the Underwriters' Association to contribute an annual sum to the Association'for division amongst the Brigades, instead of as atpresent Fire Insurance Associations making donas tions to different brigade's. The Conference thismorning passed the following resolutions :•-That no member shall be entitled to either the Association certificate, medal or bar unless he attends two-thirds of tbß>--« musters of hia Brigade, except whon ' prevented by sickness or of absence. That some better method of - : deciding ivet finishes be adopted in competitions, either by electricity or , some other way more certain than at 1 present. That brigades not seuding ' in returns of rules of members by July 1 31st be debarred from all privileges of 1 Association till after the next corape- : tition. That in the event of a team from any brigade attending a deiggu> ■ stration and not taking part intne r same, the Exeoutive may refuse to f allow such team their travelling exv ■ penses, That firemen attending the • Association competitions or Con'' 1 fereuco must travel in uniform, and 1 that the Railway Commissioners be ! asked to issue passes only to firemen l in uniform.
