The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. From Clerk to Mredton Eoad Board) enclosing resolution passed by six ratepayers, requesting the Council to take a vote of the ratepayers on the subject ot establishing a toll or submitting to be specially rated.—lt was resolved that the question be tested by the issue of circulars. From Mr Ralph Manning, asking the Council lo reconsider the determination of his contract,—lt was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Engineer, From Mr George Moore, requesting that the proposed change of roads be deterred, From the Clerk to the Akiteo Eoad tioard, asking that steps be taken to have certain roads The Chairman asi'imed that as the Crown grants had matured the owners of the land were consenting parties,—lt was resolved to ascertain if the owners were agreeable, aud if so to ask the Government to lay off the roads. From the jury which inquired into the circumstances attending the death by drowning of Thomas Stnrgess, enclosing a rider recommending the County Council to erect a footbridge near the crossing overtho Tiroumea liver where the fatality occurred.— The Chairman suggested the erection jof an inexpensive footbridge.—Cr Yon Redin said the work would be a difficult one.—Or Smith was afraid | there were no funds for such a work Ho believed an effort would be made next season to construct a traffic bridge,—No action was taken in the matter. NEW HOUNDAMES. The Akiteo Koitd Board submitted a proposal for altering the boundaries of their district, Cr Mautisell stated that the object was lo place the Mataikuna and other [properties which had no interest in the Akiteo roads in tho Cashpoint district. The suggestion of the Board was
' adopted. FINANCE, The Treasurer reported recaipts ' since last meeting amounting to £l4l 1 19s 8d and a debit balance of i 387 3s lid, Accounts amounting to £d% 16s Gd wero passed for payment. The Finance Committee recommended that a bonus of £o be granted to Roadman Geange as compensation for nn injury his horse bad sustained while piloting the Tinui coach through the Whakataki Creek during a flood; also to favourably consider the pro* posal of the Alfrcdton Hoad Board that the Council should forego any claim against the Board under the agreement by which, if tho Council declared the road through section Block X,, Puketoi, to be a County road, the Board would contribute £3O per annum towards the'maintenance thereof. ALFREDTON HOAD, After some discussion it was decided to adopt the new by-law for tho protection of the new metal on the

The report of the Engineer was read and adopted. ' It was resolved to notify the contractor for the Tenui bridge repairs that heavy carriage in connection with the contract must bB completed by the close of the present month, as recommended by the Engineer. The sum of £SO was voted out of the Biding fund, as recommended, for work ou.the Waikaraka-Horaewood road, KAIWHATA ROAD. On Ih? motion of the Chairnian, seconded by Or Maunsel l , it was resolved that Mr Nit? bo informed that the road suggested by the Engineer lies within the Taratahi Carterton rosd District j tliuUioabould appoacb that Board after having first ascertained whether Messrs Tatham and Hales will agroe; and that this Oounoll will hand over all thirds for the purpose, NOTICE OF MOTION. The further consideration of a notice of motion standing in the name of Cr Guild was held over till next meeting, WINOATF,'B eoad. The Comtuitteee appointed to inquire into Mr Wingate's application for a road to his proporty at the Upper Taipn reported that it was of opinion that the situation of Mr Wjngafe'a property precludes the probability of the Boards of either of the three Road Districts whoso boundaries converge in the vicinity being in a position to afford him any relief; but that tho original intention to carry a main line of road from Eketahuna to Tenui by way of Castle Hill should be given effect to. The Committee recommended that tbe Council should take steps to ascertain whether the Alfredton and Custlcpoint Road Boards have auy objection to • the district road through Alfredton from its junction wjth the present main road tft a point where the Tirauroea-Manawa line a,gain adjoins the same road being declared a County road, and failing any objection op their part that the CouncilshpuM so declare it. The Clerk was instructed to give effect, to the repf of tj)o (Jqmmjttee, TIUpTION ENGINES AND BICYCLES, The Clerk was instructed to ascertain what provisions were made by other Counoils for regulating traction engine and bicycle trafjjq.
