PAHIATUA.

(From Our Own Compondent.) Mr -T, 0. Williams' second brick building in now all bub completed, and Mr J. M, Bertram, saddler, has already moved is. The other shop is taken by a hairdresser. Yet another business man is about starting—a baker, in Mr D. Crewe's premises next to the Club Hotel. A painful but amusing incident happened in the Justice's Court here the other day, One of the solicitors appearing characterised the action of the Bench as "scandalous" in al> lowing certain witnessos two days' expenses on a case in which they were only examined once. It seems they had previously attended on a day set down for the 1 hearing, but no Justices turned up. The Bench adjourned the Court to allow of an apology being tendered, but as this was not forth* coming, and the solioitor said "it was a free country," and " lie would repeat that their conduct was scan* dalous," a further adjournment often minutes was made to allow the prr> siding Justices time to brood over the affront before doing anything definite, On resuming, the Chairman of the Bench plaoidly said they were satisfied with the legal gentleman's " explanation," and tbe case would proceed, The spectators expected the total annihilation of the man of law, and have not got ovor their surprise at the easy termination of the " incident" yet.
