The Autumn Show of the Mdstertoh % Horticultural and Industrial was opened.in .the Drill Hall this::? (Tuesday) morning under circumstances. G, Beard, P, • Murray (fov Mr M. Caselberg), James ,'.'■ Russell and F. W. Patter. Some flue specimens of geraniums, pelar« goniums, ooleus, and bigonias are shown, and the foliage plants are. . excellent. A couple of giant lilliea are exhibited by Dr Hosking whiojji^ attract considerable attention, Fori 1 the season of the year cut flowers are.t:; well represented, the display of pan« : i :
sies, dahlias and bouquets being jjjjtticularly good. A collection of asters exhibited by Mr W\ G, Beard would do credit to any show-room, A bettershow of fruits than that made.to-dayy despite the fact that the weather has been unpropitious, has not beon seen in the district, Apples are partiou-v larly well represented, as are also grapes, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears, quiuceß, blackberries, etc. It is seldom raspberries this season of the year, yet sS&ate ia exhibited by Mr Jsis. Stone, of the; Waipoua. ,Nursery; Some .fine specimens of melons are also shown, The feature of the whole show, however, is the tomatoes, iu which there is great competition. In vegetables the greatest competition is in cabbages some of which are of immense size* There are also some good specimens of pumpkins, vegetable marrows, parsnips, carrots, turnips, onions,
rhubarb,beans,pons, and potatoes.. The principal exhibits undor the heading of "local productions'' are '1
(he preserves, dried fruits, and homemade bread. Mr H. Campbell is as usual to the fore with his excellent bacon and hams. To: turn to the.writing an* drawing classes, there is good coma petition, and the judges. will haye
their work out out 'to make the awards. There is a noticeably falliug off in the number of ..exhibits- ,'of
hone and fancy work, which is ' much to be regretted, although some of tho knitting and fancy workiinhown would bear favourable colqlrlson with anything "before exhibited in the district. A good show is made in the apiarian olass by Mr T. Dixon, of the Worksop.road Apiary, who has on view some excellent samples pt extracted honey, comb honey, and honey ready for the market. Messte Broom and Lenz have also exhibits in this class. A collection of stuffed birds and mounted stag's heads is exhibited by Mi A, J, Jacobs,
taxidermist, which shows that he thoroughly understands the work
he undertakes. The Bhow as a whole compares favourably- with previous ones, and is to be continued; for two days, The staging has been carried out by the Committee in an able manner, and tho Secretary (Mr W, B, Ghennells) has been indefatigable in his otfortß to ensure tbe success of the exhibition.
