The man Wilson (who was offering from lunacy) has been aSated * and committed to theLunaiio Asylum, Wellington. A veiy auooesaful general entertain, ment was given here on Friday eveniug in aid of the widow and family of the late i). Quarterman, who was killed by the falling of a sawn log on the Eketahuna Railway Works. A good programme was gone through. Tho Misses Siiels and Travel's con. tributed several sentimental songs as also the Mills family, which were highly appreciated, while tho comio portion was sustained by Mssrs Devonshire, Mills, Reynolds, Roe and Mrs Prenter, Mr Archie Thompson kindly gave a short exposition of his ventriloquial powers to fill a gap in the programme. Quite an enjoyable item was a zither solo by Mr Bacon. .At the conclusion a dance was held, I am glad to say that asubstantial sum, £l2 133 4d, remains after pay ment of expenses for Mrs Quarterman and her children. Mr Crewe held a large uucton sale ol sheep and other stock on Saturday at his new Bale yards, but buyers seemed to bo scarce and bidding was very slow. Mr lornS had a better experience on Tuesday when ho quitted all his entries at.good prices. Ho liolds a sale of pure bted rams on Saturday. The entries include from the estates of Messrs Buchanan and Williams and Beotham, Mukuri is at last to have a mail. Tenders fqr a Li-weekly service are called for.
