The Wairarapa Daily. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1892.

The Editor of this journal has not been wont to unduly trouble his readers with personal references, but an ocoasion has arisen when he may possibly without impropriety write about himself. After a dozen years of continuous work in connection with the Wairarapa Dailv his health has failed him, and he k taking a six months' holiday and a sea voyage. Indeed, for more than a year he has been all but prostrated by ill health and has worked under great difficulties. Still, in spite of this drawback the Daily has never been stronger or more prosperous than during the term alluded to. Its editor and proprietor has been fortunate in his staff I From Mr Charles Haines he has received very valuable business and literary assistance, and he deems himself fortunate that during his absence from Masterton the general management of his office will be in Mr Haines' able who have done good and loyal Bervicej to their employer, and whose assist-' ancehe gratefully remembers, He feels certain that during his absence from Masterton the Daily (fill continue its prosperous career and will still deserve the support which it has been wont to receive. In elusion one other word bf explanation is necessary, Mr Payton's health for the past few days has been so in different that he bus been altogether unable to call round and say

"good-bye"to his many friends, and he hopes that the omission will not be put down to any lack of courtesy on his part, and trusts that his friends will accept the farewell words which lie is now writing and accept bis assurance that he values their esteem and is grateful for many kindly wishes which have been expressed towards him, .
