LAND BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was/ held yesterday. The members present were Messrs J. H. Baker (Commissioner, in the ehair), 'and Messrs W, W. M'Cardlo, W. A. Fitzherbert, and A. W, Hogg, M.H.R, . The following applications to obtain titles were ' approved, provided the conditions conditions of tlu Act are complied with:—Mttngahao, W. Sowry; Makuri, D, Reiohenhocb, The applications of the following for transfere were npproved : Mangaone, A, 0. Andrews to J. W. Andrews an! another; Kopnarnngs, fl. Long to himself and V 7. R. Long; Kopuaranga, 0. Morehensen to 4, and K. M. Morehensen ; Mangabao, 0. H. Parker to C. A. Trengrove j Mangahao, A, Tagsjart lo W. Taggart. The following applications to transfer were not approved, as the conditions of tho Act had not been complied with:--Makuri, W, H. Mountfield; Mangahao, J, W. MoCardie.
Mr W, B, 0. 'Giccia wrote with referenoo to his tictiou in obtaining the title on single improvements to sections 60, &c, blocks 9, 15t., Makuri. It was resolved that the Commissioner should reply expressing the emphatic dissatisfaction of the Board both with (kcia's conduct in obtuining his title and with his explanation, > The Commissioner informed the Board that Messw M. and L.. Verdon intended to appeal against the dooision of the Board cancelling their interest in sections 29 and 80, block 5 Amahini. -
_ The Surveyor-General wrote', stating that Government wag advised that applications for exemption from residence under seotion 148, Land Act, 1885, are distinct from applications for title under section 1G of the Land Act, 1887, and therefore- there does uot appear to bo power to allow the title to section .Gj-'block 7, Mangahao.to issue on single improvements. The Board rosolved to inoludo this question in tho appeal to be stated to tho Supreme Oourt next week. It was resolved to withdraw section 1 and 2, block 'B, Mount Cerebus, and 1 and 3, block 1, Irom sale, and offer them the adjoining lands after the road surveys are completed, The Crown Lands Banger reported on the-reserve at the Ngaawepurua Bridge, and recommended that it be leased for grazing stook without any right to Ihe lessee to fell the bush. It was resolved to let it at auction for a term of ten years, subject to the conditions stated by tho Ranger. The Banger also reported as to the difficulties he experienced in arriving at a true estimate of the value of improvements effeoted by settlers, and it was resolved to thank him for his full and complete report, and adopt his schedule of prices, The Board decided to cancel the interest of the selector of section 2, block 11, Fohangina, as he had refused to sign his lease. Mr J, Lumh wrote', stating he intended to abandon his section, lot i, Alfredton Village Settlement, and it was resolved to forfeit his interest in the land, Mr G, H. Scales forwarded a declaration that his license to occupy section 117, block 1, Mangaone, was lost and destroyed, and it was resolved to issue a duplicate on payment of a fee of 10s 6d, Mr Scales also asked to bo allowed to register his brother as his substitute for residing, on the seotion, and obtain the title to the seotion. The Board decided to register the substitute provided he resides there, and to postpone the question of obtaining the title until satisfied that the substitute is actually residing on the section,
The following local bodiesforwarded plans and proposal!) for expending acorued thirds in their respective districts:—Kiwitea Eoad Board, Alftedton Road Board, Wairarapa West County Council, Wnitotara Road Board, and Waitotara County Council, It was resolved on Ihe motion ol Mr Hogg, M.H.R,, seounded by Mr M'Cardle, that land sales for the future be advertised three times in the daily papers, twice in the bi weekly papers, and once in the weekly papers of the district, subject to satisfactory arrangements baiag made at the discretion of the Commissioner, the Board then adjourned,
