The evidence on this aspect of the case produced at the inquest was altogether insufficient, indeed, the witnesses who could have thrown light on this point were not called. Our Pahiatua contemporary points out that there was negligence on the patt of the police in not clearing up this matter, the only extraordinary consideration being that the proprietor of that journal in his capacity as foreman of the jury did not insist upon all essential evidence being forthcoming, We are reluctant ourselves to believe in the theory of murder; it is more reasonable to suppose in the face of known facts that the ignorance of youth led up to the catastrophe. Perhaps the police are on the right track and have, simply been conceiling their trail by the awful faice played by them at the inques l ,.
