Sergeant Bomwi Diamond, YtQ. . Th ■• death is announced-' in our obituary column of Mr Bernard Diamond, who has been for soma time a resident of Masterton, at tho age of . 66. Tho deceased, who was a Ser» ■ geant in the Royal Horse Artillery, served twenty- one years in.,. Her jk' Majesty's service, nineteen of which'«► were spent in India. During that time he distinguished himself at Bohmdshur on the 28th of September, 1857, when he ovinced the most : '" determined bravery in working his gun undor a very heavy fire of musketry, whereby he cleared the road of the enemy after every other man belonging to his gun luid be«n either '*. killed or disabled, He was also in tho PuDJaub Campaign, and was in the regiment commanded by Lord % Qough, He fought at the battles of Rauinuggar, Cliilliamallah "and Gooierat; followed General. Gilbert in his advance to Peshawar after the enemy ; wis through the Eusoofzai country under Colonel Bradshaw, and passed through the Quat Pass with Sir C. Napier, He was in the bittlo v of Nujuighur under General Nichol* son | the siege and capture of Delhi under General Wilson; the battle of Bolundshnr and Agra under Brigadier Qreathead; the relief of Lucknow, siege of Cawnpore, and siege >■ arid capture of Luoknow under Ljjj&Olyde, and the battle of Nawabgunge under General G. fl, Grant. The deceased was in possession of the Viotoria Cross, the Punjaub Medal with two bars, the Indian Mutiny Medal with three bars, and the good conduct medal. He leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter. The funeral, which will b& a military one, takes place on Wednesday.
