Wellington v- Uastortaa.

A matoh between the Masterton Rifle Volunteers and the Wellington City Kifles was fired at the Mastertoa range yesterday, resulting in a win for the City corps by 98 points, The conditions wore ten men aside, ranges 800, 500, and 600 yds. The day, though fine, was unfavourable for good shooting, the sun being very bright with a strong S.B. wind blowing, making fine shooting somewhat dilcult. Corporal Jackson (City Bifloa). however, to put' qh an excellent score of 8,1, Hep aijd Quise being tfie next on tip list wjth 78 and 72 respectively. At tjQQyds' both teams fired fairly well, tho city team securing the lead with 14 points the scores being-City, 249; Masterton Kifles, 285, At the 500 yds the Cities increased the lead to 32 Sointß, the range totals being—City ;ifles, ?08 j Masterton Kifles, 190. 1 At 600 yds the city team gained a<W further 66 points, the scores being 179 against 118, the grand total re-suiting-City Rifles, 686; Masterton Rifles, 588; the City Rifles thus winning by 98 points. The city team returned to town by hst evening's train after a pleasant trip. They speak highly of tho hospitality and kinduess of Captain Pownall and the Masterton Volunteers, who made, every effort to make the' visit of the . city team a pleasant and enjoyable one.
