The settlers in the Forty-Mile Bubli, taking advantage of the spell of dry weather, have started busli fires in all directions and tho township is enveloped in dense volumes of smoke, making it very uncomfortable with the high wind blowing. Borne of the burns so far have bson the best „ for several seasons. A Maori Chief named Hurunuiorangi, commonly known as "Mickie," died at the Hawera Pah early this j (Sunday) morning, after a lingering illness of several months, He was supposed to be about 100 years old, M'angi is now being held,
