MASTERTON HOSPITAL.
Animal Hooting of Sutoorlbora. The annual statutory meeting of contributors to thsMasterton Hospital was held yesterday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Council Chainlers, fourteen subscribers being present. On the motion of Mr Feist, seconded by Mr Dalrymple, Mr Boddington, Chairman of Trustees, was voted to the chair, and culled upon the Secretary to read the advertisement convening the meeting, The statement of receipts and expenditure for the twelvemonths ending 21st Dec. , last was also read, and Mr Boddington explained that although the Act did not provide for a statement being presented, the Trustees had always (adopted this course. The financial year did not close until 21st March, and consequently the statement was not the usual audited one, which would be issued to the subscribers in due course, together with their report printed in pamphlet form. He said the statement just rend showed they were in a good position financially, and no doubt the subscriber? would think they had a good nest egg, but it must bo explained that more accommodation was necessary at this Hospital, the medical officer having 'reported that a waid was required, and the Trustees had the consideration of this expenditure in view. There was one pleasing feature in their receipts, viz., patients fees. For a number of years the collection ol these had been neglected, but the Trustees took the matter in baud some four years ago and the result showed an average of LIOO for the past twoyeaig. From tune to time they had donbtless observed by the local pnpers the number of patients t who had received treatment in the f Hospital and some very serious cases bad been dealt with satisfactorily. A tabulated statement before him Bhowed the increase from year to year. In 1887 85 ; 1888, 32; 1889, 42; 1890, 61; and 1891,71 patients had been admitted, last year being just doublo the number of 1887. He also bore testimony to the skill and attention of Dr Hosking, the Medical Officer, and Mr J. Willianiß tie Custodian. The latter'B wife had been
appointed by the Trustees nurse to the institution. Dr McGregor had recently visited tbo Hospital and expressed himself well pleußed with the management of the affairs at the Hospital, It would he the duty of the subscribers lo elect two tiustees in plnce of Ue» J, McKenna and Mr G, S, W. Dalrymple, the retiring ones, who were oligiblo for re-election. Mr Gawitb proposed and Mr L. J, Hooper seconded the re diction of the two retiring members, who were olected Hr'thout' opposition, Mr Dalrymple Returned thanks. Mr E.H.Waddiugton proposed and Mr J. Elliott seconded a rote of thanks totho Chairman and Trustees, which was carried unanimously and the meeting closed.
