RABBIT BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the North Wairorapa Rabbit Board of Trustees was held in the County Council Chambers yesterday, there being present Messrs F, Mooro (Chairman), Murray, Groves, Elder, Whatman and Inspector Drummond, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The subsidy due to the Board was rcoeived from the Treasury. Mr D.Cameron, of the East Coast, wrote, stating that he was about to turn out fifty or sixty ferrets, and requesting the Bervicea of the Inspeotot* lor earmarking purposes, Mr E, Meredith, of Llandaff, also wrote with reference to the procuring of ferrels, The Treasuror reported that there was a credit balance at the Bank of £265 5s Gd, Subsidy, amounting to £2Ol Is sd, could also be applied fur, : Accounts amounting to £62 13s were passed for payment, The Olerk stated that the opinion appeared to be general amongst stockOwners that the Board should expend the surplus at its disposal in procuring anothershipmentof stoats and weasels, The Chairman expressed the opinion that the natural enemy and bisulphide of carbon did not work well together, ' Tho Clerk-reportedthat he had received sixty-five replies to the circulars upon the advisability or otherwise of abolishing the Board, lifty.one were in favour of abolishing and fourteen against.
> : The Clerk, in reply to the Ohair--1 man, stated that when all the rates , and subsidies were collected the Board . would havo nearly £IOOO at its disi posal, i Mr Whatman thought they should , take prompt steps to recover the i outstanding rates if the Board was to . be abolished. i Mr Groves suggested the expanding : of the surplus at the disposal of the i Board in procuring ferrets from the ) South Island. I Mr Murray was of opinion that : they, could not import stoats and , weasels whilst bisulphide was being I used, i Mr Whatman thought the rates' , collected should be returned to the f ratepayers, i ' Mr Murray said the ratepayers had i told them that they were to wind up ■ the Board as Boon as possible. In the face of this they could do very little. Tho stockowners wished to rid lliemi selves of the rate. He would pro- , pose that notice be issued to all the : ratepayers in arrears that if the amounts owing were not payed within i fourteen days summonses will be , issued, Mr Groves seconded—can-ied. Mr Murray proposed that no fur. ther subsidies be paid to ratepayers breeding ferrets. Inspector Drummond thought Hub would be rather hird. Thoy should fix a time, Mr Groves said some ratepayers had been breeding ferrets with' the expectation that they would receive a subsidy from tho Board. Mr Whatman moved that the surplus, rates be returned to the ratepayers pro rata. Ho tboughb this would be the more desirable way of working. Mr Murray seconded. Mr Elder moved as an amendment that the surplus be expended in procuring ferrets. Mr Groves seconded. 'The amendment was put and carried on the voices. It was decided that Messrs Levin and Co. be written to at once with the object of obtaining as many ferrets as possible within thenext four weeks, tho price not to exoeed ten shillings per head. On tho motion of Mr Groves, seconded by Mr Whatman, it was resolved that all informations laid since last meeting of the Board be withdrawn, It was proposedthat any costs that maybe awarded against Mr Mapkay in Court cases be recouped him by the Bonrd. An amendment that Iho matter be left over till next meeting was carried, Tho ineetinjj then adjourned,
