The Dompany is promoted for fW purpose of acquiring from the present ownoistlio newly erected Gasworks at Palmerston North, and of carrying on the business of gas manufacturing in all its branches in the ordinary mode of Gas Companies, and for other purposes stated in the Memorandum of tio.j. The. works were erected by Messrs John Coates and Co., Has Engineers and contractors of large experience, under a contract with the Palmerston North Borough Council, and were punhased from them by tho present owneta, Messrs Coates and Co. retaining an Interest. The lease of tho site of tho works and the concessions embodied in the contract for erection (copies of which can be seen at the offices of Messrs Harcourt and Co., and also of the various other brokers of the intended company throughout the Colony), are now vested in equity in the Promoter, and the legal interest will bo "'signed to the Company by the New Zealand attorney nf Messrs Coates and Co., and the attention of applicants for shares is particularly directed to the provisions of these documents, which tho Promoters themselyos look upon, as eminently favourable. /A It is almost unknown foragaa conipaOT to fail ; on the other hand, all have pai* good dividends when even only fairly managed. Palmerston North ia well known to be a most progressive town, and must eventually contain a [large population. It ia the centre of an extensive area of rich agricultural and pastoral country. In no part of tho Colony is settlement more rapidly proceeding than in the surround' ing district, and the recent completion of the Gorge Line connecting the Wellington and Manawatu Railway and the Wangaimi-New Plymouth Railway with the Napier Line, must make this town s large and busy railway and commercial centre.
The recent census returns - show that Polmerston North has made tho enormous increase of. B6| per cent in Its population since the census of 1886, Wellington showing an increase of 5076 t the largest numerically in the Colony, but giying a percentage of only 'I9J inorease as compared witli 1886. As investments, Gas Companies haye been amongst tho surest and most profitin tlio colonies, la Australia and Tasmania the averago dividend paid by Gas Companies, and the prcmiums l T»n the paid up value of the shares Cwia follows Dividends, £l3 15i; Premiums on Shares exceed 77 per cent. The streets in the Borough of Palmerston North are now lighted with gas, as also are all the'principal buildings and places of business, and the customers of tho Company are monthly increasing much beyond anything that wps anticipated. The returns furnished by the Manager show that for 1891 the receipts of theworkßare over 227 per cent in excess of what they were for the same period in 1889. ; From the large extensions of mains and other wirka during laHt year, it is not anticipated that aßy furthsr outlay will be necessary in tho same direotion for 80310 time to come, But extensions to the works, if necetsary, would not in any easo proportionately equal the coat of present installation, aa much work lias been done applicable to extended works. The Vendors offor their interest in the lease, plant, and all concessions for the sum of £16,000, • In New Zealand, as in Australia, Gas Companies have proved-exceptionally sound investments, and no class of shares command generally euoh high premiums and pay sudnteady as they do. * Gas Shares in Now Zealand Btoncr it an averago premium on the paid up capital of over per cent, and have thus proved themsolrea as a class unsurpassed in popular favour with investors. The average dividends paid by these Companies in 18' JO equalled £lol6s Od per cent, and it must not be over-looked that owing to the strike and the consequent high price ot coals, Sc., this year' was an exceptionally trying one for all Gas Companies. In addition to paying'these large dlvi-. dends, bonuses have been paid, and extensive reserve funds formed. There is every reason to anticipate a similar success for tho Palinorston North Gasworks, which aro now in first, class! working oraer, and havo given irioßli' satisfactory results. ■ . 1 ' Special attention of lntendlne investors is jailed to the fact that all expenses .of sea of floating the Company will be borne by the vendors j the Company will not therefore bo saddled with any prelimiApplications for shares must be made to the Brokers, or to the Colonial Mik of New Zealand and its agents out New Zealand, The share list will close on the 31st January, 1892, HAFCOUET & CO,, Brokers, Wellington..
