The Oompany is promoted for" tho purpose of acquiring from the present ownois the newly erected Gasworke at Palmerston North, and of carrying oii tKe business uf gas nmwufactimnj; in all its branches 111 the ordinary ■ inoie o'f Gas Companies, and for other purposes staled in tho Memorandum-of Associa-' tio,i. '■ The works were erected by Mesits John Coates and Co, lias Engiiieeri and contractors of largo oxperitmce', under n contract with Ilia l'alroenton North Borough Council, and were ' piinhased from them by tho present owners, Messrs Coftteß and Co. retniuing an ; interest. The leas') of tho siie of the works and tho concussions embodied in the contract for erection (copies of which can bo seen at t!ie' offices of Mossta Harcoutfc and Co., and also of the various other brokers of the intended company throughout ilie Colony), are now vested in equity in the Promoters, and the legal interest will bo assigned to the Company. by the ' New Zealand attorney of Mcesra Coatca and 00, and the atteiitioii of applicants for shares is particularly directed to' the provisions of these documents; vjbich the Promoters themselves look : upon as eminently favourable: " It is almost unknown foragas company to fail; on the other hand, all have paid cjood dividends when even only fairly managed. Palmereton North i 3 well known to be a most progressive town, and must eventually contain a largo population. It is tho centre of an extensive area of lich agricultural and pastoral country, In no part of the Colony is settlement more rapidly proceeding than in the surround* ing district, and the recent completion of tho Gorge Lino connecting the Weiliiij>ton and Manawatu Railway and tho Wanganui-New Plymouth Railway with the Napier Lino, must make this town a largo and,,busy railway and commercial centre. ' • ■ 1 '
The recent census returns, show that Palmerston North has mado tho enormous increase of (ibj per cent in its population since the ceiwus of 1880; Wellington showing an increase of 5076, the largest numerically in tho Colony, but giying a percentage of only 19j increaso as compared with 1880.' ■ M investments, Gas Companies haye been amongst tho Burestand most profitable in the colonies. In Australia and Tasmania the ayerage dividend paid by Gas Companies, and the premiums upon the paid up value' of the shares are as follows Dividends, £l3 15s; Premiums on Shares exceed 77 per cent.' Tho streets in the Borough of Palmerston North are now lighted with gas, as also are all tho principal buildings dud places of business, and tho customers of tho Company are monthly increasing much beyond anything that wes anticipated. Tho returns furnished by the Manager show tlmt for 1891 the receipts' of the works are over 227 per cent in exoees of what they were for the same period in 1889. From the large extensions of mains and other wnrks during last . year, it is not antioipatod that any further outlay will be necessary in tho Bame direction for some time to come. But extensions to tho worlie, if necessary, wrald not in any case proportionately equal the cost of presont installation, as much work has been done applicable to extended works. The Vendors offer their interest in the lease, plant, and all concessions for the sum of £15,000. In fto-Zealand, rb in Australia, Gas Companies have proved exceptionally sound investments, and no class of shares command generally such high premiums and pay such steady dividends as they do.
Gas Shares in New Zealand stand at im average premium on the paid up capital of over ity pet cent, and have thus proved themselves as a class unsurpassed in popular favour with investors; The average dividends paid by these Companies in 181)0 equalled WOlosOd per cent, and it must not be over-looked that owing to the strike and tho- consequent hijfli price ot coals, (Sc., this year waß an exceptionally trying one for all Gas Companies. . ■ In addition to paying those largo dividends, bonuses have been paid, and extensive reserye funds formed. There is every reason to anticipate a similar success for tho Paluierston North Gasworks, which aro now in first class working order, and havo giyon most satisfactory results. _ Special attention of intehdinr investars is called to tbe fact that all expenses of advertising and other expenses of floating tho Company will be bomo by the veudors; the Company will, not therefore be saddled with any preliminary expenses. Applications for shares, must bo made tn the Brokers, or to the Colonial Bank of New Zealand and its agents through? out Now Zealand. Tho share list will eloso on the 31st January, 1892, HAHCOOBT & CO., Brokers, Wellington. _ l)'Oit BALIi. > IFive to six boreo power ENGINE and boiler suitablo for breaking down Joga, or for a small aasli factory,
