A sale of Education Reserves was held at Pahiatua on Thursday. The attendance, was small, and no bids woro made tor any of the sections. Four sections were disposed of at the upset price after the sale.

An exchange tells the following yam: —A gentlemau who made a trip to England not long ai<o had givon to him by a olorgyman who is not unknown in Nelson, and whose writing is particularly illegible, a letter of introduction to a minister of his churoli in the old country. When attending a harvest thanksgiving service in the north of England : ,the gentleman thought it a good opportunity to use the noto, and so be enabled to inspect the decorations of the ohuroh. Accordingly at tho end of the service he called op the minister and presented his note. The minister looked at it, and hesitated a little and then asked the stranger for his name, lie again referred him to the letter, and said that his name must be written there. Again the minister looked, and after a little more hesitation taid, " Unfortunately tho letter it written in the native language." h, J.
