Associii tio.i.
Tho works wore erected by Measis John Coates and Co, Has Enginecra and contraetoro of large experience, under a contract with Ihe Palmerstoii North Borough Council, and wero punhasod from them by tho present oirnora, Mesa is Contesand Co. retailing an interest. Tho leas 3 of tho eilo of tho works and the concessions ombodied in tho contract for erection (copies of winch can be seen at the offices of Messrs Harcourb and Co., and also of the various othor brokers of the intended company throughout ihe Colony), are now vested in equity in the Promoters, and the legal intorest will bo assigned to the Company by the Now Zealand attorney of Messrs Coatcs and Co., and _ the attention of applicants for shares is particularly directed to the provisions of these documents, which the Promoters themselves look upon as eminently favourable. Jt is almost unknown foragas company to fail; on the other hand, all have paid s;oocl dividends when even only fairly managed. Paliuerston North is noil knownto be & most progressive town, and must eventually contain a [large population, It is the centre of an extensive aroa of rich agricultural and pastoral country. In no part of the Colony is settlement more rapidly proceeding than in tlio surround" ing district, and tho recent completion of tho Gorge Line connecting the Wellington and Manawatu Railway and the Wangauui-New Plymouth Railway with the Napier Lino, must make tins town a large and busy railway and commercial centre. The recent census returns bliow that Palmerston North his mado the enormous increase of (ibj per cent in its population ainco the census of 188G, Wellington showing an increaso of 6076, the largest numerically in the Colony, but fiiying a percentage of only 19J iucroase as compared with 1881). As investments, Gas Companies haye been mnorgst tho surest and most profitable in the colonies. In Australia and Tasmania the average dividend paid by Gas Oompantos, and the premiums upon the paid up value of the shares are as follows i-Dividends, £l3 loi; Premiums on Shares exceed 77 per cent, The streets iii tho Borough of Palmerston North are now lighted with gus, as also are all'tho principal buildings aud places of business, and the customers of the Company ore monthly increasing much beyond anything that wm anticipated. The returns furnuhod by the Managor show that for .1891 tho receipts of. the works are over 227 per cent in excess of what they were for the same period in 1889, From the large extensions of mains and other works during last year, it is not anticipated that any furtlur outlay will be necessary in the same dirootion for some time to come, But extensions to the works, if necessary, would not iu any case proportionately equal the cost of present installation, as much work has been done applicable to extended works. The Vendors offer their interest in the lease, plant, and" all concessions for the sum of £15,000.
lii New Zealand, as in Australia, Gas Companies have proved exceptionally sound investments, and tw class of shares command generally such high premiums and pay such steady dividends as they do. Qbb Shares in New Zealand stand at an average premium on the paid up capital of over per cent, and have thus proved tbeiiisolves as a class unsurpassed in popular favour with investors, The average dividends paid by these Companies in 1890 equalled £lolss Od per cent, and it must not be over- luokod that owing to the strike and the consequent high price ot coals, &c., this year was an exceptionally trying one for all Gas Companies. In addition to payiiig these largo dividends, bonuses have been paid, and extensive reserve funds formed. _ There is every reason to anticipate a similar success for tho Palinerston North Gasworks, which aro now in first class working oraer, and have given most' satisfactory results. _ Special attention of intending investors is called to the fact that all expenses of brokerage, advertising and other expenses of floating the Company will bo borne by the vendors; the Company will not therefore be saddled with any preliminary expenses Applications for shares must bo made to the Brokers, or to the Colonial Bank ofNew Zealand and its agents throughout New Zealand.
