H e was met at Nine Ferry by the Mayor and the members of the looEtl bodies. On arriving at the town boundary, tho Town Clerk read an address of welcome in tho presence of a largo concourse of people, A procession' was then formed of the Volunteers, Friendly Societies, and sohool children, headed by a band, The weather was beautiful, and the day was kept as a holiday, and the town deoorated, Mis • Excellenoy,, afterwards left by speoial tranifor the Denniston coal mine, where he is to be thnguet; of the Westport Coal Company. He returns to town at 9 p.m. and leaves overland for Kumara early to-morrow morning. Westport, January 8. The banquet given to the Gbvornor at Denniston last evening by the Westport Coal Co,, was a great sucoess, The Hon. Mr Miller, ohairman of directors, occupied the ohair. - The Governor in proposing the toast, " Prosperity to the [Company," eulogised their spirit and enterprise and expressed a hope that the and employed would work amicably' together iu the future. He said the Buller Valley and Denniston were the most interesting places he had visited in New Zealand, The Governor and his" party returned to Westport at 10 p,m. and reoeived several addresses.
