MAURICEVILLE SPORTS.
A Secidel Sucoisa. The usual gathering of the Mauriceville Athletic Club was held on the Sports Ground yesterday, and proved in a decided success. The weather was beautiful, and visitors came rolling in from all directions, intent upon spending a merry time. The large Committee, with Secretary J. Bannister at their lead, kept things going in fine style, and are to be complimented upon the manner in which the whole affair was conducted. Although Constable Koache, from Eketahuna, was on the ground, his services were not called into requisition, all those present enjoying themselves without becoming obnoxious. Pearson's Band delighted the crowd with a well selected programme, and created a most favourable impression. Host Anderson, of the Eketahuna Hotel, did a thriving business in the publican's booth, and the cake and fruit stalls did likewise. Fully five hundred people were on the ground, and a good day's outing was spent. The races were well contested, and several exciting finishes were seen. Considerable interest was taken in the wrestling contests, and this appears to be the art of the young fellows of Mauriceville. The following are the results of the various items on the programme : Maiden Race. Robinson 1 Ammundsen 2 Thbowing Heavy Hammer. Kummer (90ft7in) ... 1 Day (82ft 4in) 2 Four entries.
