[By Telegraph.—Press Association.] Chbistchubch, December 17. At a meeting of the Chicago Exhibition Committee this afternoon the resolution* passed by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce was approved, and sub-committees appointed to look after the exhibits in the rariou3 departments. Auckland, December 17. The Hon the Premier addressed a crowded meeting at the City Hall to night in which he defended the Government against the various charges brought against them by the Opposition, and extolled the Govern* xnent policy% well calculated to serve the interests of the Colony. At the conclusion he was enthusiastically . cheered, and resolutions were passed expressive of thanks to the speaker and confidence in the Government. JNaher December 17. The Rev J. Parkinson died of heart disease. His age was 52. He was chaplain to the Naval Artillery Volunteers, and arrived in the Colony in 1882. Accidents and Fatalities. Gisbobne, December 16. Alfred Ashley, bushfeller, has been { drowned in the Pakarae River. He belongs to Christchurch. i Westpobt, December 16. , Charles Prince, collier of Coalbrookdale, was seriously injured yes* terday. He had prepared a shot, lit the fuss, and, with his mate, got out of tbe way. Subsequently he heard a shot got off, and returned to the ] .-face, when the shot mooring exploded, j burning bib badly about the face and i injuring bis eyes. The first shot was ' in a neighboring face. Prince was I taken to tbe hospital. - Wriboc, his mate, is not seriously hurt.
