MASTERTGN.-THURSDAY, (Before H. S. Wardell, <jfcq.,R.M.) POLICE OFFENCES AOT. Samuel Bartlett was charged under the Police Offences Act with failing to place a light on an excavation in Queen^street. The defendant staled that he was only a sub-contrnotor and had not charge of the work. The Bench allowed the defendant half an hour in which to produce evidence to show that he was not the reponsible person. The acoused subsequently pleaded guilty and was fined £2 and coats 7s. BABBIT PKOBEOUTION, Brown Hunt, a settler of the Opaki, was charged on the information of Inspector J. W. Smith with failing to take efficient steps to destroy the rabbits on his property. Mr Bunny appeared for the prosecution. Inspector Smith deposed that dt« tendant had been fined in October last for failing to destroy, and since that time had not taken satisfactory steps to reduce the pest. % His Worship stated that he considered theconduot of the accused was deserving of more than a mini* mum penalty. A fine of £lO and costs 7s would be inflicted.
