EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting ot the Wellington Board of iSducatioo was held at the offices, Mercer-street, yeßterday. Present—Messrs J, R. Blair (chairman), J. "Xoung, G. Beetham. W. W, M'Cardle, F. H.,Fraser, A. W. 8r0wn,,,, Rev J. l?atersdn and Dr Newman, ' " M.H.R. The Chairman remarked that the . pupil teachers' instruction report was, on the whole, satisfactory, only one teacher having been reported on in an adverse manner. As, however, he had only just received the report he would ask the Board not to deal with it at present. Miss Caldwell was appointed to the Grasseudale school.
I The Clyde-quay School Committee I wrote asking that a bonus might be given to Mr Erskine, who for some. -, I montbß past has been doing temporary duty as a teacher at the Clyde-quay sohool. As the Board did not see their way to accede to the reql&st, the - request was not entertained. With re. gard to the question of appointing Mr Erskine to the position ..of first assistant master toClydetqgay sohool, in the place of Mr was, it Was believed, on the point of resigning, it was decided [that immediately the resignation was sent m applications for the vaoanoy should be invited by advertisement: The application of Mr E. The resignation of Miss E. H« Mills, assistant at Otaki, was accepted. • i- , -j The question of allowing pupil teachers at Pahiatua expenses to en-' able them to attend the examination centre was held over for a month. The application from residents of ' ' the Makakahi to create that place ft separate school district, and asking . for the erection of a schoolhouse there, was referred to the existing local school committee.
A sum of £ls for fencing was granted to the Mangatainoko Sohool • Committee. r •
