Tho writ of liabeas corpus has been granted in the case of the young woman who whs sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment by the Cambridge Uuiversity officials. The Court of Appeal has granted Mr Maybrick's executors his life insurance amounting to £2500. Sir E. C. N. Braddon's paper in reply to the vecent strictures on the colonies has produced a good impress sion.
In the discussion which followed Mr Perceval, the new Agent General for New Zealand, stated that the colonies suffered from absentee landlords,and condemned the hostile cntio isms which, while they ignored in the colonies themselves, yet did much harm in England.

December 9. The Duke of Devonshire ha 9 suffered a relapse. The Times states that the Puke of Clarence and Avondate will be married on the 10th March at Windsor.
The Queen's Bench Division has decided that the statements made at sittings of the London County Council are not privileged, and has mulcted MrW. C. Parkinson, Councillor for North Islington, in £250 damages for alleging that an indecent show was being held in the Westminster Aquarium.
The Aberdeen Justices declined to attend the Industrial Exhibition opened by Sir Charles Dilke. The Standard hopes to see Sir G. Berry again Premier of Victoria. Lord Brassey proposed the toast of " The Colonial Empire " to which Sir Charles Tupper replied with a speech in defence of the financial strength of Australia.
