Sir Frodoriok TChlt&ker.

Auckland, December 4,
This afternoon Sir Frederick Whit« akrr was seized with a fatal il.ness at his office. Mr Buddie and Mr Mason had occasion to go to Sir Frederick's room about 3 o'clock, when they found him silting in his chair unconscious. Dr Haines was oalled in and ordered his immediate removal to his home in Symonds street, bat Sir Frederick vV" hi laker died Bhortly after he reached his residence, The cause of his death was paralysis. He had a v severe shock of that kind in June last, and has been in failing health since that time. The attack which oaused his death was a sudden one, as Sir Frederick appeared in exoellent health in the morning, andtransucted his business as usual. Later. , The announcement of the death of . Sir F. Whitaker oaused a" profound sensation in town. General regret was felt that an old colonist, whose well known figure had been familiar to Aucklanders for a generation, should have ended a long and honourable career under such melancholy circumstances. Sir Frederick'slaugh - ters, Mrs Minnetl and Miss Wlutaker, weie at Lake Takapuna, and wero at ' once sent for, but before they arrived their father was dead. One : of the daughters, Mrs Baker, aud two of the sons are absent from the colony, Mr H. Whitaker being in Melbourne and Mr E. Whitaker at Johannesburg, in South Africa- Judge Oonnolly, at the Supreme Court, spoke of the loss suffered by the death of Sir F. Whitaker, who was an able jurißt and public man.
