TOWN LANDS TRUST.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tow.i Lands Trustees was held last night in the Borough Council Chambers. Present Messrs W. Lowes (Chairman), S. E. Gapper, J. Graham and A.. W. Eenill. An apology for absence was received from Mr E. H. Eton.
The minutes of tno previous meeting were read and confirmed. A petition, from several residents wss presented, praying tbe Trust to grant a piece of ground about twelve laet square near the Post Office on which to erect a cattle trough and drinking fountain. The Chairman said know where they had a suitable piece of land, except tho corner section, which could not be cut iuto.
Mr Renall suggested application being made to the Church. This would bfl the best place. The Chairman said he certainly sympathised with the object of the petitioners, but did not see where they could give them the land.
Mr Brown said he had been told that the Govenment were willing to let the piece of land adjacent to the courthouse, between the polioe station and the post office. It was .resolved to inform the petitioners that (tie Trust sympathised with the object, but not having a suitable piece of land in the vicinity of the Post Office respectfully suggested that the petitioners make application to the Borough Council. PARK TttUST. The Chairman said he had obtained particulars from the Chairman of the Park Trust and from the Seoretary of the Building Society re the position of the Park accounts, Mr Jones and Mrs McKenzie each held debentures for £2OO, bearing 6 per cent interest, for the £4OO originally borrowed by the Pirk Trustees. Shares had been taken up in the Master ton Building Society, the value of which at the present time being £30114s Bd, in 21 months would be £4OO. The only advautage in finding the money required at once would be a saving ot £l2. IE the shares were transferred to the Town Lands Trust they would have to pay in for twenty-one months before getting their money back. He would suggest that as the chairman of the Park Trust wished to get clear of the debt, that the Toffn Lands Trust take over the liabilities and al - low the Building Society shares to mature. They would then have to set a certain sum apart for a specific purpose, which would probably otherwise be frittered away in small grants, and in August 1893 there would be a good lump sum of £4OO iu hand which would make a good start towards the contemplated Town Hall. Messrs Renell, Gapper, and Graham expressed themselves in favour of this course, and it was decided to inform the Park Trustees that the Town Land Trustees are willing to relieve them of the liability of £4OO as soon as the necessary transfer can be made of the Building Society shares. GENERAL BUSINESS. It was resolved to inform the Borough Council that the Trust can- ! not comply with the request for perI mission to divert the Watercourse on town acre 111. M r Gapper stated that he bad not experimented with poison on ths> gorse, as suggested at last meeting, because animals were grazing in tho paddocks and might have token - a fancy tq browse on the poisoned parts. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment to j). Pickering Jgl IQa and C. Dajiiell }Bs §d. This being all the business the meeting adjourned until the Bth of -January.
